As we have discussed pages are primarily used for content that is more static on the site and while the content on the page may change, there is only one of them. A perfect example of this is a homepage, which we will be creating now.
In order to create a page we will go to the ‘Pages’ tab in the navigation bar from the admin panel. This will take us to a page where we can see all of the pages we have created on our website and at the top of the page there will be a button to create a new page.
Go ahead and click the ‘Add New’ button and you will be taken to an area where you can create your new page.
There is quite a bit to do on this page so we will go ahead and break down all the different areas. The ‘Add title’ section is where you will type the title of you page. This one is pretty common sense. However the section below it has some important aspects that we need to discuss. At first glance you would think this is the area that you would type the content for your page, and you wouldn’t be wrong. However, we aren’t going to use this for our pages. This is because of the theme we are using. Themify has a builder that allows you to customize your page and its content much easier and in more detail that the standard WordPress editor and you can’t use both. The content that you create in the WordPress editor will always sit above all the content that you create through the Themify builder. So we won’t be using this section at all to create content on our page. It will remain empty and we will use the Themify builder instead.
Additionally, as we move down the page we see the ‘Themify Custom Panel’. The panel is unique to Themify and if you have a different theme active on your site you may have other sections or none at all, but we will be focusing on Themify. In this panel you can select the general layout of your site using the ‘Page Options’ and ‘Page Appearance’ tabs. In the ‘Page Options’ tab you can select if you want a sidebar and what type, the width of the page, weather to hide the page title, select a custom menu, and activate builder section scrolling.
In the ‘Page Appearance’ tab you are able to choose a background color, edit your navigation bar and header design, change your footer settings, and change some image settings.
Now if we look to the side of the page, we will see some more setting avaliable for our page.
In this section you can set a featured image which will show up in your header, allow comments (which I recommend disabling), and select a parent page if applicable.
Once you have entered in your page title and selected the setting you want for the page you can preview the page and create the content for the site on the front end using the Themify builder, and once you are satisfied with your content, click publish at the top of the page and your page will now be created.
